We're migrating slowly from Nortel to Shoretel, and I haven't found a way to assign multiple extensions to one phone on our 580G's. It's such a basic, simple thing to do on our CS1000, I just typically put an appearance of a number on button 01 as a secondary number, set it either to ring or not to ring, and so on. Can somebody help me out here?

Thanks

I've been on the same kind of journey - you'll find lots of interesting ways to do stuff that you took for granted...

Best way to go this is by setting up a monitor extension on the phone - so build a new extension assign it to SoftSwitch. then in your personal options/program IP phone buttons. select the button number select telephony for the first field. Monitor Extension in the next and then fill the rest out.

There appears to be no way of doing this properly. Also watch out for pickup groups/hunt groups and switch resources. I get lots of issues when there's "not enough resources"

Backups have to be done when the system is offline unless you are doing snapshots (virtual environment)
out of interest - what was the rational for ditching the cs1k?

It's not getting any smarter out there. You have to come to terms with stupidity, and make it work for you.

Maybe you could explain how you use the second extension and why it was set up that way on CS1K? There may be a different way to accomplish the desired result.

Thanks for your help mikeyb123. The Shoretel sure is a different animal, it seems to me right now.

The powers that be decided that the cost of upgrading the CS1K was way too much. We're on Release 5, issue 50J, and we would've had to come up to whatever's the latest and greatest software to add more fiber remotes, licenses and such to our system. Avaya stuff don't come cheap.

Thanks again,

I think the Monitor extension feature will work just fine. At first it threw me for a loop, how something so easily done on the Nortel was simply impossible on the Shoretel, but now I realize that there is really no reason to have a secondary extension on one phone only. It only takes up an extra license. Besides, there are ways to do it, just not the way I'm used to. Thanks for your consideration, y'all!
