What we trying to do is:

Have two exchange 2000 servers on the same domain, where the databases are replicating in either real time or on some fixed interval, so that if one goes down, there would be an automatic ( or manual ) failover.

Is this possible? If yes, what exactly is involved? Is there an exchange add-on or third party software that would facilitate this?

We are on a windows 2000 Network running in mixed mode. The exchange server is on a win2k machine and so will the new one.

Thanks

You need an exchange cluster. Works sort of like a mirrored disk.

is there ever only one way to do anything on a computer?

You can have a manual fallback by having a cloned box ready to go, bring it online in the event of failure and then restore to it and away you go.

That's just one other way.

try a product called 'NeverFail'. Its costly but works wonders. I currently use it on a SQL2000 and FileServer.

It's a automatic failover package.
