upon start-up, about a dozen "programs" appear on the taskbar. there are no names/labels for these programs, e.g. Ms outlook, and they are just greyed out. When they are clicked they disappear but it requires me to click each one of them to make all of them go.

Can you go to start-type msconfig and see what is in the startup folder....
