Multiple email addresses per user

Does any one know how to give a single Domain user multiple email addresses in Sharepoint 2. I have several users that want alerts to go to multiple locations (work, home, spouse..)

I have tried seperating addresses with semi-colon (ex: home@isp.com; work@xyzcorp.com)but alerting stops working for the user when this is done.

I am using the SMTP service in IIS on Windows 2003 Server.

Nothing shows in BadMail or Drop directories and no errors from SMTP. It seems the message is never attempted.

By default out of the box I do not think that you can actually setup multiple e-mail addresses to a single user in SharePoint. There might be a programatic way of doing it, but I am not a developer/programmer.

To my knowledge, there isn't a way to assign users multiple email addresses and get all of the system components to recognize these email addresses without recoding each component in the Portal.

If you do find something, please post or write a FAQ. ^^

We had the same issue here, so we created a group in our email system (Lotus Notes) that pointed to multiple email addresses. You can do the same in Active Directory or MS Exchange.

Then, change the email address in WSS to the group email you created in your email system.
