Customer has a Merlin Magix R.4. I have programmed three Operator positions and each operator has a DSS Unit. Lets just say the customer is "different". The system has 40 plus extensions. The operators want to be able to see all the extensions on there DSS Units without having to switch from page to page. I was told that I could have two DSS units side by side working off of the same extension and both units could be on page 1 to see 100 extension at the same time. Is this true and isn't there a maximum number of DSS Units the system will except? Thanks!

Ryan

You are correct - if you have two DSS units - both can be on page 1 for access up to 100 extensions. I would assume the limit on DSS units is the same as for operator positions = 8 maximum operator positions. If all operators had two DSS units that would = 16 max DSS units. You will need auxiliary power supplies to power two DSS units per operator phone.

I have auxilary power supplies for the first DSS. I don't need another one do I? Or can I just plug the second DSS into the first one (AUX port). Thanks for the input!

Yep, that's how you do it.

You have an IN and an OUT on the DSS Units.

If the operator consoles are 4424LD+ phones - you already have the auxiliary power supply connected for the display. If they are MLX 20L or 28D phones, you will need an auxuliary power supply like the 1151A1 - to hook up 2 DSS units (daisy-chain) as merlinman noted.

Actually, if you have all 4 pairs wired from the Control Unit to the Phones, (MLX-20 & 28) you can get by without the aux power unit.

yes the 4 pairs is true we have 2 dss's per operator station and they just have the 4 pairs and both dss's work just fine.

Okay, there 4412D+ phones will that still work with all four pairs connected to the phone and port going into a TDL card? This is good stuff to know, Thanks!

4412-D's cannot be Operator positions. Only 4424-D's, and 4424-LD's.

The 4424-LD's come with a power supply, for the Large Flourescent Display, which will also power the DSS.

The 4424-D's will require that you order the power supply seperatly.

Yes, sorry they are 4424D+ phones. Thats good to know because there on TDL ports. Thanks!

Being TDL's they only use 1 pair back to the switch.

But they do need the aux power that you have.

Got it, so with one power supply I can operate two DSS units. Thanks!
