We have one functional site remotely hosted on an NT 4.0 server. In addition to our primary domain name, we reserved 13 closely related names. I need to set up IIS so the 13 related sites point to the primary site. When a user types in any of these domains in the browser, they should be redirected to the main site. I'd like to set them all up on the same server. We have 5 IP addresses available, but I'd like to just use one IP address and use virtual directories. Someone told me I need to add the 13 other sites into the default page of the primary domain. I know how to set up virtual direcetories, but I don't know how to allow the user to type in the domain name only (e.g., and get them to the primary site. Any suggestions on how to best do this would be appreciated.

This is not necessarily an IIS issue, it is DNS. Who ever hosts your domains (all of them) just needs to add either an A record for pointing to the IP address of your main site or a CNAME record (alias) which points to The CNAME is probably better if you change the IP address of the main site later.

This actually does not require you to create 13 sites on you IIS server, solely the one site that you want. The remaining work needs to be done by your ISP. Essentially, they will need to create a record for each of the URL's poining to the same IP address. Off the top of my head, I can't recall precisely what records the ISP will need to add, however if you contact them, and indicate what you are trying to accomplish, they should know what to do.

Hope this helps.

I told web server company's tech support what the domains are and they created zone file records for my domains (I don't have direct access with the ISP.) I assume the web server company did whatever is necessary, but they say the ball is in my court now for whatever else needs to be done.
