Hello all,

I am in need of some assistance. Currently I have an internal network running within a domain structure (Windows NT 4.0). We are in the process of phasing this domain out and replacing it with a new win2k domain. I have set up the new servers and have been able to log onto the new domain. However, I need to be able to access both domains from the workstations for the time being. Currently, only one domain shows up on the login screen. If I try to join a workstation to the new domain, the old domain is unavailable to the login screen.

Can anyone help!!!! I've been dealing with this for the better part of a week. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jose

This is more complicated than I can explain here, but I will try to get you started. First, from what I understand of your network, I would assume that the New 2K domain has nothing to do with the NT 4.0 domain. In order to be able to access both, you would need copy the users from the old domain to the new domain using the ADMT (Active Directory Migration Tool) utility. The reason for this is that this tool will allow you to maintain "SID history" to allow you to access the old NT 4.0 domain until it is removed. There are other things that must be done also, but all I can recomend is that you look at information pertaining to and "Inter-Forest Domain Restructure". Microsoft has a course for this - Designing a Microsoft Windows 200 Migration Stategy. The course material explains a lot of this information, but not all. Possibly enough to get you though your problems though. Good Luck!
