An interesting one...
I have a server that I have taken offline and it's data moved to a current live server. The current live server is Windows 2000 Server in an AD domain.
The server name that I was using on the offline server is still used by a lot of code written by our developers. So I kinda need that name around for now...
So, what I did was add an additional name to the registry (OptionalNames in HKEY Local Machine\CurrentControlSet\Services\Lanmanserver\parameters) for this machine.
This sorts out from an IP level, ie: I am able to ping that DNS name now...
BUT, I am not able to connect to the machine...
I get "Duplicate name exists on the network"...
Anyone ever seen this before?
