I develop programs using VB6 and have been using CR8 developer edition for quite some time.

I have XI developer but hesitate to install it as there are many reports embedded in many programs I've done for clients using VB6/CR8 and I'm concerned XI will "take over" - meaning I will have to repair or rewrite many functional programs.

However, some of my newer projects may benefit from XI - so I am wondering if the two versions can coexist, and will I still be able to develop using either version?

Thanks for your help-

I had no problem having both 8.5 and XI installed at the same time. They install into completely different folder structures. You just have to be careful because if you double-click on a .rpt file in Explorer, it will open up in XI regardless of the version used to create the file. So, for the version 8 reports you'll have to run Crystal and open them from within Crystal instead of just double-clicking on them. There are enough differences in the UI between the two versions that it will be easy to see if you're in the wrong version. XI will open 8.0 reports but 8.0 will not open XI reports.
