Hello,

I have just setup Desktop Messaging on a Call Pilot 4.0 system. I have setup Fax messaging and it works great on a one to one basis. However, multiple desktop messaging users want to share the same fax Dn. I can't figure out how to set that up. Any help would be appreciated.

i had this before on CP 1.07 and kinda remember that the other side was set up in Outlook. this may have changed but i think that several users may be able to share the same number as long as they have the software on their PC's.

if i'm right, all you have to do is look at one end user and make the other ones match. it's been about 3 years since i've seen it work so good luck.....

I thought about creating a desktop messaging mailbox that receives the faxes. Then have everyone login to their desktop messaging client using that mailbox and password. That would probably get them their faxes. However, then the issue becomes they can't get their voice mail anymore.

we do that there. We only have 7 fax machines in the building, so we whacked them and made the original analog fax did's IDC right into the fax DN. Gave the 4 departments of about 80-90 people each ONE fax box on all of their PC's

If you have enough licenses to give everyone desktop access for their voice mail, why not give them their own fax DID? why share? Call pilot is just an IMAP server so what ever email client you use you can set up multiple IMAP accounts to grab the shared fax and personal VM.

So I could just add it through outlook and not use the desktop messaging client? Would I just use the mailbox DN and pass code to login and receive the Fax's?

yes, but you would have to use windows TIFF viewer open the attached tif faxes.. There are some bells and whistles that the fax software supplies. but if you can live without them you should be fine.. If your using outlook go into the CALLPILOT server settings you can get the ports and ip, user name (or extension) and everything out of there, and just build an imap box with that info.

Thank you for your help.

I setup a test account using outlook express, without installing desktop messaging. I received my test fax as a tiff attachment.

Here is the synopsis for future readers of this thread:

1. Verify that you have Licenses for fax.
2. Build a CDN for multimedia messaging
3. Append your companies DNS Suffix to the call pilot
4. Run config wizard and add the multimedia CDN to call pilot
I think I had to build a SDN too but now I can't remember.
5. ACD NCFW your Fax DN to the new Multimedia CDN
6. Create a new mailbox using the Fax DN (Desktop Messaging Class)
7. Login once using MyCall pilot to change the default password.
8. Either use desktop messaging or IMAP to receive your fax's as TIFF attachments in e-mail.
(The reason for using IMAP is it lets multiple users receive the same fax from one DN)
9. Use the IP address or FQDN of call pilot as the IMAP Server.
10. Use the DN of the mailbox as the username and the pass code of the mailbox as the password.

That's it.
