the help file for cognos describes a method for using several databases in a catalog, but the description is sparse. is there a way to include multiple databases (with different dsn's) into a catalog. we have 20+ databases that our managers use for different client groups and the main problem i am trying to solve is a way that they can access the different databases without having to change the dsn at the server.

thanks in advance

I'm almost certain that Impromptu doesn't support multiple databases through different DSNs.

If SQL Server or Oracle is your source and the databases are all on the same instance then you can access all databases through one catalog.

If your databases (tables) are small (< 100,000 rows) then you can create an Access database that links all the tables from the individual DSNs into a single Access database. Create a new Access database, add Linked Tables and select ODBC Databases from the file type list. Create a single Impromptu catalog from this Access db.

HTH,

Justin
