I need to set up my laptop with two distinct configurations for two specific purposes and can't figure out how to do it (if it's possible).

The standard configuration is the way it was supplied with all of the usual TSR apps running (Virus checker, Win Security check, checking for wireless LAN, etc.). That's fine for "normal" work.

However, a primary use of this computer is for high end audio recording. In order to perform that recording reliably I need to disable all of the stuff mentioned above so that nothing is resident. Otherwise, the background processes interfere with the recording and create clicks, pops, etc.

I'd also like to give the recording editor application I use total control of the computer when it's running. I know this won't stop TSR apps from "sneaking in" when they get a chance, but it also should help improve the reliability of operation when recording.

Can't you use Hardware Profiles and disable the things you don't want to run for your "Recording" profile?

The problem is not the hardware, but the software that is loaded.

Hi,
Can't you, while logged in as the 'recording' user, modify the startups ( using msconfig) of those TSRs and other services you do not need?

Right now I have just one admin user set up and no other users, so there is no login. If I set up a second ("recording") user and the first time I log in as that user run msconfig to disable the TSRs, etc., won't that also disable them for the other user?

If I can have different TSRs and other services based on the login of the user, that would certainly solve my problem.
