We are specing a new server (a DL380 G3) to act as a database server. We will have 4 drives that we want to operate as two Raid 1 arrays. This will allow us to separate the database data and logs.

The server comes with a Smart Array 5i Plus controller. Is it possible to achieve this with this raid controller, i.e. have more than one Raid array, or do we need to buy a more sophisticated controller. If so, any suggestions?

Thanks

Martyn

Martin,

The 5i will be able to accomadate this, no problem. You can add a number of arrays 0+1, 0 & 5 if you like.

the dl380 comes with a splitable back plane - not sure if this is by default or an add on

means as well as the 5i - you can use the 5300 -

but the 5i is adequate
