hello.

i have a microsoft wireless multimedia keyboard. unfortunately, my keyboard has "features" whereby F1 automatically is set to "Help", F2 is "undo" etc...

I hate this reassignment of the function keys. I like F2 being "rename" etc. Moreover, I have several games that don't work due to the redirection of these function keys.

Does anyone know how i can rever to standard keyboard uses for function keys? I've tried disabling the MS function. However, all this does is make the key do nothing. For example, when i click use disable for "F2", the "F2" button doesn't rever to rename.

any help greatly appreciated.

Why not just use a standard keyboard instead so your games will work properly?

There should be software to "re-assign" the function keys. Check your keyboard setup, and Help files.

I imagined that moomoomoo knew there was software to install to make the keys do different functions. I thought that was a given.

micker377,

You ever sit back and watch someone try to Write "Click"
on an Icon?

Try it for yourself. Click on an Icon on your Desktop so it is highlighted then press the "C" button on your keyboard.
You know....."C" as in Click"

I use to Tutor and one day I heard that annoying DING for about a million times so I asked the person what they were trying to do and they screamed "You Told Me to Write Click on it!".....

So stupid me says "I meant with your Mouse" and she says "But you can't write with your mouse"

True story.........and I don't Tutor anymore.......

Okay, i surrender!
I too have and still do tutor. If my memory was better i could come up with my own stories of dumbness. Instead, i will pick on myself.
I got into computing by buying a computer and teaching myself, no experience at all. My buddy put some programs on it.This computer had the old blue and white gui for wordperfect, with planperfect, laplink, shell to dos, etc, etc, all up on the screen, you just press a button to get to go where you want to go. Only spare time i had was after 9 pm each nite. So i called my friend each time i was in trouble and he'd patiently advise me. One night i was stuck in, i think, wordperfect and couldnt get out. So i called him. I think his answer was "Jesus ******, press the dam* "O" button or something like that and the phone slammed down hard. I looked at the time and it was 3:30 am, i had no idea, thought it was around 11!
I guess we have killed this thread.

Did you ever find an answer? I just bought the Microsoft Wireless Natural Multimedia Keyboard... What it does is set F2="Undo" by default... if you go into the properties to change the assignments... you can do 4 things... 1. The default action which is Undo. 2. Choose from a list of commands (so you can change it to do something else, like "play/pause", etc. 3. Run an program or URL, and 4. disable.

If you disable the key (4)... the key does nothing anymore... not even rename.
If you try to change the action (2) it gives you a list that does not include the option for rename...

If you click the "F Lock" Key it toggles between the old way and the new way!!!
