Hi all :)

I am having some problems setting up SLP (for a Novell client install). SLP
is running on the workstation as if I use Konqueror I can browse the services available locally but I can't seem to find any out on the network.

I have added a multicast route:

# route add -net 224.0.0.0 netmask 240.0.0.0 dev ra0

Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use
Iface
192.168.2.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 ra0
loopback * 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo
base-address.mc * 240.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 ra0
default . 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 ra0

but if I ping the multicast address it doesn't even reply from itself
(tested on another workstation and works ok) -

# ping 239.255.255.253

Heres an ifconfig output that claims multicast is enabled:

ra0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:11:D6:20:39:4D
inet addr:192.168.2.2 Bcast:192.168.2.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

Running SUSE 10 with kernel 2.6.13-15.7-default
Drivers for wireless card are ralink2500 ones not ndiswrapper

Although this is a wireless card I'm not sure if that has any bearing on the problem or not. Any help or nudging in the right direction would be much appreciated :)

Have you tried "netstat -n" and "lsof -i" to see if the SLP service is actually listening on your external interfaces?

I'd also make sure that the firewall is not running while you test the app, just to be sure that the firewall is not interfering.
