What is a multicast address and what does it look like?

Multicast addresses use the range 224-239. Also known as a class D address (1110 in binary).

Multicast is somewhere between unicast (your typical everyday IP point-to-point communication) and broadcast (one packet sent to everyone in the broadcast domain). Multicast is like sending a directed broadcast. You will typically see this used for streaming video/audio.
