I need to change the single zone page unit at a customers site to a multi zone. They currently have a Valcom page controller and I plan to replace it with a 3 zone unit also made by Valcom. The phone system is a Norstar MICS, not sure of the release. Does the MICS have more than one page port? If not does the page port pass DTMF tones required by a Valcom multi zone unit? If I remember correctly feature 60 accesses paging on a Norstar system and it prompts you for the zone, is this just for zones referring to paging to telephones?

you only have one page output from the MICS. for zone control you have two options. use a multi zone controller like you are looking at; then you dial feat 631 pause 1 to activate both page zone 1 phone sets and page zone 1 on the valcom.

alternately I have seen techs use old 7208 sets with the middle (Headset) jack on the back of the phone as a zone input. set up a 7208 in each page zone and take the middle jack out to the page amp. then you just dial feature 611 for zone 1 feat612 for zone 2 etc.

Whats the External Page on the MICS used for? Just in case I need it in the future.

The page port is for Tip and ring for external 1 zone paging. You will need a co port of off the norstar.

pts-

The Ext Page is for contact closure, to cut off music and such being pumped over a paging amp. Thus, when F62 is activated, the contact closes.

No, just one audio output. Some amps require a contact closure, so Norstar systems also have a set of normally open contacts that close when an external page is initiated. This is usually used to mute background music while a page is active.

you may want to connect the valcom control to a spare co line port and then give it a access code or a key button assignment. the valcom unit will need to be programed for a loops start trunk.

the only problem with using a valcom on a CO port is that you can only control the external paging thru that. you cannot do a set and ext page such as feat 631. If you use a zone controller out of the page port then you just have to select the zone after the feature code has been selected. such as feat 631 then dial 1 feat 630 then dial 0.

I have one like this at a car dealer and they just think that the tone(when the zone is dialed again) coming out of the stations is an attention tone.

What pair is the paging on the MICS I'm trying to make the pagin work thru the overhead speakers tied to a Valcom 2003 A and the voice does not go. I hear the system like closing the contacts when i press the f62 but does not work what i'm missing.
