Hi

I have 5 licenses, and 5 PC's. The problem that I am having deals with a button that I am using to toggle between two files.

If both files are open, and I try to toggle, I get a response that says:

"FILE NAME" is currently in use and could not be opened. The file is single-user, or the host could not be found on the network.

I have the files both set under sharing to multi-user, and the only way that I can toggle is using the "Window" menu and switching files . . .

Any suggestions ??

Thanks, Robert

P.S. I am new to filemaker, so any details are appreciated.

Sounds like a problem in the scripting - when you created the script to OPEN the other file you probably went to File -> Open and directly selected the file.

If you do tha you get the error you mentioned because only one computer can have that access (unless you use Filemaker Server).

To correct this - open the script and select the OPEN line that selects the other file. Now click on the File button next to the Specify check box. When the screen appears you want to click on Hosts (in the lower right). You should see the name of the computer that directly opened the files and all the files that are available, or you'll see the Filemaker Server Name and all the files (if you are using one).

Click on the file you want in the list and click on OPEN. Then click OPEN again, Click OK then click DONE. That will force the script to look through the network Host for the file.

NOTE: If you are not using Filemaker Server and just have one of your PC's opening all the files first - make sure the same computer is always the one that opens the files directly or you will get an error message about the computer not being available and the file couldn't be found.

Hope this helps.
