I have a wierd, frustrating issue with one client I hope someone can help me with. Our multi-use VFP8 app has been running Peer2Peer on over one hundred systems for years with no issues on various OS, Win2K, XP, Vista and even some others with Win7, so its hard to blame our app. Could this problem be due to Win7 64/32 bit hardware mismatch?

The Server PC is running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
The Laptop PC is running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit
Appt Scheduler is DBI Module used in our application and all drivers are loaded on each computer.

Following is C&P from client ....
"Tech was troubleshooting the computer issues again and he eliminated several issues that he thought might be a conflict or issue. He brought in a new gigabit switch/router from his office. He has uninstalled just about every program on the computer, Dropbox, AVG etc... The computers successfully ping back and forth very fast. He has worked with permissions and there are no issues there either.

Here is what he has done. He can get the laptop running very fast and accessing the the appointment book, it works great just like the day you were here but as soon as App is opened on the Server everything slows down and its is very slow again. If App is closed on the server and App is closed and reopened on the laptop, its fast again. CRAZY!! It works great unless App is opened on the server. Does any of this make sense to you? We cant make light of it at all. Its like when App on the desktop is opened it puts some type of hold or lock on the files that makes them very slow to read on the laptop Salontec program. I think this is the same response we had when you were on site and it would work fast then it wouldn't work. Tech has been testing for 4 hours again tonight and this is the repeated issue over and over again.

Tech thinks problem is with the way App on the Server PC interfaces with the database files when App is open, even though there is no problem if running single user from either computer."

I appreciate any input or opinions, thank you!

Is this a new install?
was it fast at one point and all of the sudden it started to crawl?

Server PC is running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Do you mean that the application being run within a Virtual Workstations "on the Server" or what?

If so, obviously the performance of Virtual PC's are limited by how many V-PC's are running within the server - over-all resource availability, etc. most especially noticed when concurrent V-PC's are running.

And are the individual V-PC 'resources' set to be same as the laptop which is running very fast ?

How are the V-PC's being accessed by the users?
* Remote Desktop?
* Other?

Another question-
but as soon as App is opened on the Server everything slows down and its is very slow again.

If you are running the laptop test and things are running well, then someone concurrently launches the App on one of the V-PC's, does the laptop performance show noticeable degradation?

Finally a last question-
Where does the App's data 'live'?

When the laptop runs the App does it need to access the App's data on the same server as where the V-PC's are running?
Or is it totally by-passing that server to get its data?

In general I'd say that this is not a VFP question (despite the performance issue being noticed most apparently in the VFP application), but instead it seems to be a network question.

Good Luck,

You have not mentioned what OS the 'server' is running, but I will also add that while I have not personally had to deal with it, there have been a number of posts and replies regarding VFP applications and Windows Server 2008

You can do a Keyword Search in this forum for: server 2008 to find some of the previous posts.

Thanks for the replies. The app ran fine on older XP computers and problem developed after new computers were installed. We are not using a virtual PC. Server I refer to is name of a Desktop PC running Win7-"64"bit, which is where the app and data reside. 2nd Computer in the 2 User Network is Laptop running Win7-"32"bit and directly accesses data on Server vis Path statement in Config.FPW. Application and all appropriate drivers are installed on both computers. Could the problem be result of 64-bit and 32-bit mismatch or conflict, which is what I initially suspected? I'm stumped!
