I am testing out splitting our 80GB FirstStorageGroup into multiple groups and can log on as the user fine after the mailbox move has taken place, however there does not seem to be any access for users between storage groups. For example

User A opens outlook
User A looks at UserBs mailbox - all OK
Move UserB to SecondStorageGroup
User A then tries to look at UserB mailbox and the following error is displayed
outlook cannot display this view. the specified view cannot be found

Can anyone offer some advice, permissions 'should' be set correctly

Thanks, Anthony

correctly" is subjective. For a user to have access to someone else's mailbox, they are either made a delegate (preferred) or someone is mucking with permissions on the mailboxes/databases/storage groups/servers. Delegate access would survive a mailbox move to another database/storage group/server. Mailbox permissions would depend on where they were assigned. If they were assigned at the database or storage group level, those permissions would have to be duplicated on the "new" storage group (assuming you wanted to duplicate that behavior). Do a side by side comparison to find out where they are assigned. And seriously consider delegate access.

Thanks for the prompt reply, permissions are set on the server and delegated, i've given all the permissions to get around the issue, but still the problem persists.

Having not used storage groups before, I am not sure if this is supposed to happen i.e. cross group access

Thanks

There is a need to change the permissions on the Administrative Group in Exchange System Manager on either Exchange server. This is a minor change which involves ticking the "Allow inheritable permissions" box in the advanced security settings.

First of all a new DWORD value needs to be created in the registry on both Exchange servers as follows:

Location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\ExAdmin
Value Name: ShowSecurityPage
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1

Once this is created the afforementioned security change can then be applied on both Exchange servers, as this entry shows the "Security" tab at the top of Exchange.

This change will resolve the problem of delegate access being denied when a users' mailbox is on a different mailstore.
