Multi Page Dynamic Word Doc as OLE Object in CRXI

Hi All,

I need to display one of a selection of multiple paged MS Word documents within a Crystal report (I am currently using XI) based on the data within the report.

I know that as standard, Crystal can neither deal with OLE objects that go over multiple pages, nor can it dynamically retrieve a word doc based on logic/formulas as you can with images.

Therefore, I'm starting to test the possibility of printing my word docs to MS Image Writer, storing each page as a TIFF, placing each page in a section and and using the Graphic Location functionality to retrieve each page required based on my data and finally suppressing any sections that are not needed due to the data selection.

My question is.... This all seems very long-winded, does anyone have any ideas of how else I could achieve my aim?

Thanks in advance.

Do you need the documents incorporated dynamically because they are periodically updated? Or you just need them to be conditionally displayed? You could, of course, add multipage documents into text boxes in different sections and then conditionally suppress the sections.

Another option might be to use hyperlinks to the Word files--but this wouldn't display the documents in the report itself.

I have done this with multi page word documents.

You need to insert each page as a seperate OLE document. Another words, you need to break your word document into several seperate pages.

Each page gets imbedded into it's own section. This allows you to supress each page based on certain criteria using group expert.

Once the word documents are imbedded into your report, I use group footers and place the data fields onto the word document.

No need to convert the document into tiff. Hope this helps.

In the third sentance, I meant Section Expert not Group Expert.
