Hello,

Working on a school district design. I have 2 main buildings, elementary and secondary connected via fiber.

I'm looking at bringing a PRI into the secondary building, running it into the magix system. Between the magix, looking at running a T1 over the fiber.

I'm looking for some feedback on a design like this. I'm looking at interbuilding calling, DID setup, etc... Any words of advice? Any recommendations on equipment, such as the equipment to run the T1 between the switches via fiber.

Thanks,
Andy

Run PRI on the fiber, use RAD fiber modem, and it works well.

So I would do:

100DS1 <---> RAD Modem <--Fiber--> RAD Modem <---> 100DS1

It says it carries a "T1" signal, does it carry the PRI? I know they are both DS1 circuits.

Thanks again!
Andy

That's the layout. The PRI sends some extra information, displays the phone label, and so forth, and gives a better signaling setup. Hardware is the same for T-1 or PRI. It's the programming that makes either pipe work. If you are splitting off data, you'll need a CSU/DSU as well. Make sure you match the modem with single/multi-mode, whichever type of fiber you have.

I called a number on their website and got the name/number of a local distributor. I think they were in the neighborhood of $600-700 apiece. Honestly, for what they do they are awfully simple to set up.
