Multi Line Appearance on Cisco CUCME 8.x

I am quite new to CUCME and we are still trying to get our first site set up per users wishes. We came from a Nortel Meridian and the users have had multiple lines on their phones for years (Their extensions plus the extensions of others in their dept.) which they would "cover" as needed. We are trying to accommodate them but not able to get things working fully. We can set up the other extensions to appear on their phones but if the "owner" of the extension is on their line at their desk then it does not ring on the other appearances as subsequent calls come through. For example:

P1 = x1001
P2 = x1002
P3 = x1003

P1 wants to be able to take overflow calls for x1002 if user at P2 is busy with a call on that line already.

What I get is either voicemail if I have set to forward busy to [VM_EXT] or busy signal if no forwarding. I have tried the lines as Regular, Overlay and Call Waiting Overlay with essentially the same results. Am I missing something or is this just not doable on CME?

If they are set a single line appearances, when they are on a call it will follow the forward busy setting. To avoid that you will need to make them multiline appearances. For CME that is achieved with CLI on the ephone-dn.
Example syntax:
ephone-dn 1 dual-line

You can replace the dual with you preference of calls. Then your overlay will work. However, until all lines you configured are busy the call will follow the no answer forward instead of the busy so make sure you set both or calls will ring for ever.
 
Changed from dual-line to octo-line and everything is working now. Thanks for the help!!!
