Multi-Level Features | (Feature/Option Items - BOM)

Is it not possible to have multi-level product setup?
IE:
Gizmo {item} - consists of packaging {item} - WidgetA {feature item} - and WidgetB {feature item}
The feature items have options of color, size, etc.

It seams that you can't create a BOM for Gizmo consisting of WidgetA, WidgetB and Packaging.
It also seams that you can't make Gizmo a Feature item consisting of WidgetA, WidgetB, and Packaging.

Is there a way to accomplish this?

Update: Spoke with ECi Software Solutions and existing Macola ES functionality is as described in previous post.
Workarounds:
1) Single SKU / BOM per configuration (made up of each possible configuration option of standard items)
2) Each build as a standalone Feature Item or standard item/BOM (separate line items on sales order)
3) Single Feature Item with all components as features/options
4) 3rd Party tool that will support multiple levels - Axonom
