We have a Btrieve Database on a File Server. Three Clients are accessing this Database with Btrieve 6.15 MKDE Workstation. By Registry entry (FileSharingOnRemote = 1) they work in Multi Engine File Sharing Mode, not accelerated.

Unfortuneatly BUTIL imports (-LOAD) data only in Accelerated Mode. So I get a Status 88 Message if I try. Multi Engine File Sharing in Accelerated Mode is not possible for more than one Client at the same time.

Does anybody Know how I can Import Data from an ASCII-File, while three Clients are accessing the Database at the same time?

Thanks

Michael

You either need to get the clients out of the data files or you need to use a server engine which will let you import with BUTIL while clients are attached to the data since there is only one engine accessing the data. Any time you are using MEFS there are several engines contending for the data files at once and this increases contention issues and raises the possibility of data integrity issues which is why Pervasive did away with MEFS in Pervasive.SQL and Btrieve 7.x (which is inside P.SQL). I just imported 1500 records with a Pervasive.SQL server engine and Butil with no Status 88 issues and one Btrieve plus one ODBC client attached. I don't think that Butil itself is setting the engine into Exclusive mode because it if was I would also get Status 88 issues, but it's going to be tough tol figure out on an old version like Btrieve 6.15.
