I want to use some multi desktop software and I am just looking for some recommendations! Ive tried the XP power toy but I'm not keen on it...

Not sure if this is what youre after, but you could try vmware. Look at vmware.com

It allows one PC to run multiple operating systems, so the same PC can be running Windows 98, 2000, XP, Linux all at the same time.

Thanks Phil - not really the sort of thing I'm after though!

I want to be able to have several (min 4) different desktop layouts and the ability to quickly switch between desktops by maybe clicking a tab somewhere on screen.

Hope that makes sense.

You could set up setup different user accounts, just logoff and on between the different accounts. This will allow you to set different backgrounds, Icon arrangements, and documents folders.
