Hey guys!

Would anyone have any idea on how to improve the initial connection to the MTS server if it is running from a clustered server?

Our client/server application (3-tier) runs smoothly when running from a standard Windows NT 4.0/SP6a but when we moved it to a Windows NTE 4.0/SP6a clustered server for the failover support, the initial connection degraded drastically.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

How is your DNS set up? It sounds like some component is doing a name lookup, which usually takes a little while.

Also, your clients are using the cluster's virtual IP address, right?

Ooops. I meant to say the virtual IP assigned to the clustered MTS resource, not the cluster itself.

Our server is installed in a remote site and we have DNS assigned to the virtual IP of the clustered MTS resource.

(e.g. mycluster.mycompany.com)

Since all the client PCs are in a WAN and access the MTS using the Remote Server Name defined (mycluster) when we created the packages, the domain suffix (mycompany.com) was added to each PC's Domain Suffix Search Order under the TCP/IP properties. This allows the client PCs to recognize 'mycluster' without making any updates to the LMHOST file.

BTW, all of our client PCs are not authenticated by the Domain server because we are avoiding maintenance of any Domain User Profiles. Because of this, we have set the package's Authentication Level to None.

Any more ideas? Thanks. :)
