Hi,

how do i find out if a database is using multi threaded server? I know there are a number of entries in the v$parameter table which have mts referenced in them but i don't know how to interpret this.

also, how can i tell what the schedule is for gathering statistics on this database?

Thanks

Hill

9i calls MTS as simply SHARED SERVERS. Nevertheless, the working and architecture is similar and older MTS parameters still show in v$parameter.

If the database instance is running is using shared servers, you should dispatcher and server background processes on Unix:

ora_dnnn_SID
ora_snnn_SID

Also, the init parameters SHARED_SERVERS (replaces MTS_SERVERS) cannot be zero and DISPATCHERS (replaces MTS_DISPATCHERS) parameter will have to be defined.

There is no sure way of telling schedule for gathering stats. You can try looking at dba_jobs where "what" column refers to dbms_stats. But then, a job may simply call some wrapper "myproc" which in turn calls dbms_stats. Or, there might be a script scheduled outside or Oracle, via cron, autosys or CTRL-M.

May be you can check the max(last_analyzed) column in dba_tables one day and then check it again over days to figure out some schedule.

Hi eager,

i did try last_analysed and the max was a date last week so i'll keep an eye on it anyway.
