Hi
I'm working for a client who is using Ellipse 5.2.3.7 on a HP-UX server with CICS.

Whenever we run Ellipse (either from Ellipse Explorer or green screen), the MTRC.out file is filling up with Ellipse server/online trace statements, even though we haven't explicitly compiled any programs for tracing.

We've recompiled some common subroutines without trace (trying to narrow it down) but to no avail!!

Any ideas on anything else that might be updating this file?

Do the trace statements give any clue as to which components are generating them?

You might have the Ellipse/CICS Server middleware tracing turned on. You can check by starting a CICS terminal session and running MTRC... (cicsterm -r instance_name <ENTER> MTRC <ENTER>)
You should see and option 'Set Tracing On (Y) or Off (N) :'
Make sure this is set to off (N).
Any problems with running MTRC or a CICS terminal session just refer to the doco (Ellipse CICS Processor Installation and Operations Guide and Reference) under the Chapter Problem Analysis, and section Diagnostic Tools - Ellipse Server Application Tracing.

We also noted this happening. We cheked Drew's advice and Trace is set to N.
The things recorded are:
MIMSEAML configClose: calling xmlCleanupParser
MSK000 S/R Call MSSCDP
MSSCDP

Anyone can explain?

The Line "MSK000 S/R Call MSSCDP" is a trace statement returned from an on-line trace every time a screen changes/call to a new msk object... looks like you will need to do some client setup checking...
Depending on the version of client middleware you have depends on the options available, ie. the alt+s+s functionality can be in one version and not in the next.
I have looked at our UAT system and we have only just applied a later version of the cics middleware to our (Brisbane City Council) citrix environment, in this version we have lost out options to set Host Trace and Debug, however the registry setting still exists (ShowHostTraceButton) from a previous version. You may want to check if there are any registry settings under the PROFILE Key of the MACHINE and USER settings that may be setting tracing on??? … just like I will be doing now you may have to take the problem back to Mincom requesting changes to their middleware.

We also found that our newer CICS middleware has 'lost' the options for host trace and debug however there is an easy way to get it back.

Try using Alt-q when the Ellipse login box is on the screen - it works for me!
