Mta terminating

I have an exchange 5.5 server that the Mta is periodically terminating. The event in event viewer is it terminated due to low disk space (less than 10 mb) or failed to read the available drive space. The drive the mta is located on has several gb of drive space left. I restart the mta and it runs for a few hours but will eventually terminate with the same error message. Has anyone else seen this?

Is it only the MTA that stops? What about the IS?

What about the partition the transaction logs are on, is that running out of space?

It is just the mta that quits. I think we are going to try and move the mta to another drive with more space.
