I am running Exchage 5.5 Service Pack 4 on NT4
I have a number of servers in a single site. Email is currently running very slow between servers. If I look at the MTA queues on the servers they have hours of delays trying to pass messages to the primary server.
Any idea why my MTAs are running so slow?? Site links seem to be operating OK. Ping times between servers is what is to be expected. I have tried starting and stopping the MTA service which seems to help a bit but not completly.
Interestingly this problem seems to get worse as the day progresses - then you come in in the morning the email sends quickly until the afternoon when you are back to slow.

Turn your Disagnostic Logging up to maximum on the MTAs, and check the event logs.

There are some specific MTA hotfixes that MS have released, these are worth looking at, particulalry if your find specific warnings or errors in the event log.

Hi ZBnet - things have got a bit better last couple days, a bit strange, no immediate explanation why.
I was playing with the logging initially and nothing jumped out as any major cause but if this gets worse I will investigate deeper.
Thanks
