Hi All,
What is the functionality of the MSTR Intelligence Server?

Suppose I am trying to build a Star Schema based data model in Oracle and decide on using MSTR for analytics/reporting then what are the different components of MSTR I should be using?

Can I perform my analytics and reporting functions with just the MSTR Desktop?

Thanks in Advance!

intelligence server provides all the administrative and performance features you would expect for an enterprise ready platform. One server does the following

- caching of all requests for reuse
- connection pooling and reuse to the db
- queueing
- clustering and job failover
- stats gathering

and other stuff. It's required for web deployment. If you want to develop the analytics and reports, then export to PDF and then manually send them to users, desktop is fine.

happy holidays to all!

Thanks nlim for the response.

Is it possible to create the MSTR metadata repository without installing the MSTR Intelligence Server Component?

If yes then how should I go about achieving the same? What are the precautionary measures to be taken (if any)? And, what are its advantages and disadvantages of using such an architecture?

TIA! And Happy holidays to you all!

-- yes: this can be done via a 2-tier connection

If yes then how should I go about achieving the same?
-- install MicroStrategy. read the manual

What are the precautionary measures to be taken (if any)?
-- backup up OS, reading the manual, etc.

And, what are its advantages and disadvantages of using such an architecture?
-- Advantages to 3 tier: thread management, distributed processing, ability to cluster, failover
-- Disadvantages: requires more of the CPU, more disk space
