It is different for platform types.
Legacy Definity pbx - buffer size restricted or overwrites
server based linux platforms - mst logged to linux server hard disk is limitless (hard drive capacity)

Thank you that is what I was thinking but had an avaya engineer telling me it was only good for 30 minutes on a CM 8.1.3.

In addition to CM's MST buffer, for all linux based servers with "Log Mst? y" also sends all MST data to the server's linux log files.
mst traces can be decoded using web browser as well as linux CLI to decode, store, & read data in the linux logfiles.
All platforms, All MST data "Log Mst? n" uses CM reserved circular MST buffer which runs forever but overwrites
the buffer each time it fills, it overwrites the oldest buffer data.
Change mst setting "Disable On Buffer Full? y" will cause the trace to stop and not overwrite the circular buffer.
Trace Analyzer times out and is turned off.
Command: status trace-analyzer
Command: enable trace-analyzer
Command: disable trace-analyzer
Command: status mst
Command: list mst continuous
