I am running ARCserve 2000 AE version 7.0. I am trying to use GFS with on a MSSQL DB. It seems that I have to set up two different jobs. One for the full database backup and another job for the differential database backup. According to CA support, if I selected the differential option when the job was first configured ArcServe would do a full database backup the first time and then follow the GFS rotation. I tried this and the first backup was not full but differential and every database backup that followed was a differentail. Does anyone know if it is possible to use GFS on a MSSQL database?

Yes you can do both with in one backup job.
Modify your current job, go to the scheudle tab, select use rotation scheme, in the scheme name field (drop down box) select 5-day weekly differntial backup, full backup on Friday. down below in the daily scheudle window highlight the day of the week and use the modify button to select full, differintial or off for no backup. e the administrators guide for more detail. csconner
Backups, Arcserve, anti-virus, W2K, WinNT

I did try setting up the job that way. The problem seems to be that the only way to do a differential DB backup is to select differential under the BACKUP AGENT BACKUP OPTIONS. After you select that, the database is always backuped differential and the GFS has no affect. I will tell you this though, after I posted this request I called back to CA and this time they told me it wasn't possible on the MSSQL database.
