Do I need the MSsearch service running in order for sql2k to function properly ?
Is the MSsearch service much like the fast find service was ? and will turning it off free up resources on my sql box ?
Could the MSsearch service be sucking all my memory.

Vague questions I know but I am just starting to look at why our machine is periodically slowing down and noticed this service running.

Thanks in advance.

MSSearch is used for full text indexing. It shouldn't be using much memory. It shouldn't be using any cpu unless you are doing full text searches.
