MSS Sending notify me

We have users that have an apostrophe in their last name and notify me is failing when trying to sent to those and causing the system to send failure vm's to the user every 3 minutes. Is there a fix for this. This is a 3.1 MSS

Yes change the name and it will work fine.

our system went through an upgrade from 3.1 - 5.1 and then was reverted back due to issues after the upgrade. The apostrophe WAS working prior to the upgrade so changing the name did work, but that's not a fix.

Odd as i have never seen this work in any release of MM.
