We have an issue with MSS eth1 error not able to ping either eth0 (corp lan) or eth1 (private lan ) although its showing link led .......shutdown system / wait 10 minutes
reboot > says discovering new hardware and then fails
after eth0 - pass eth1 - fail

no settings were changed / hardware was not added
I thought by the MAS not seeing the MSS it would store the messages for upwards of 24 Hrs as its does play a generic greeting for users ( name being played ) the MSS is off-line taken down to get SN#s for Avaya replacement.
Its stills gives the "I am sorry there is something wrong with the system please try again later " when trying to check for messages now being stored on MAS

Are you sure you have offline access turned on in the VMD

Mr. Means
I actually found that no it was not turned on for off-line access and they only have 1 MAS so messages are getting over written from the MAS as it can not see the MSS
to push mesages to > default is I think 24 Hrs as I see nothing but todays Messages in

C:\program files\avaya modular messaging\vserver\spool\
yet look in the event logs and see some dropped off over the weekend 09-30 , 10-01 ,

We have since turned off MAS as we have no way of getting Msgs / why store something we can not get to as it looks as if it over writes every day by default.

I had asked Avaya Since the off-line was not Setup when
installed and we no longer can see MSS from MAS would be possible to COPY contents of SPOOL folder and reinsert
back into MAS thus when the MSS & MAS are talking to each other would it in fact push to MSS / the answer was not sure , never tried , good idea but not real sure

But on another note I have another MSS coming in the morning not sure if it comes loaded but I am told it does if I do have to reload MSS Server CD that should be not to much of an issue / never done but have some home work to read up on - and will see if we can pull out the 2 hard drives on the downed unit and reuse - then restore DB from backup as the down unit is able to boot just does not see eth1 > passes on eth0 but still not able to ping either / tried setting my laptop up with ip address on the Private LAN and plug right into eth1 with reversed cable not able to get to Private LAN address / tried the same for Corp LAN
eth0 with same results .
Am I the only lucky one who seems to have alot of issues
with MM r3 or MM in general as it seems like a Intuity on Steroids with more storage

If you reuse the drives you may not need to do restore. as for the messages you can change how long they are saved in the VMSC to 999 days i think it will go that far.

And no we are all having issues like this in one way or another .

It is new and i have come a long way but still a long way to go.

Ken
I have been doing a little reading and hope the unit is a bare bones chassis as then I have to remove the 2 HD , 1 RMB , 1 DVD recorder and reinstall in the new unit boot backup should reload off HD .
So with the 2 hard drives A / C they both get backed up
and will support each other if one fails in this case its booting just not seeing the Physical Ethernet ports on the mother board as this is why we need to replace the chassis as there are limited swappable parts other then memory and what not .....

Hopefully the old MSS system is the same style motherboard as the replacement MSS barebones chassis they are sending to you or you could run into some additional problems. Also hopefully you are running Rel 2.0 or 3.

Avayauser,

MM3 has a lot of issues and I have ran into plenty of them. Ken has been very helpful to me. Keep your head up and hopefully in a couple more months the release will be more stable.

The Radio Revolution has begun....

replaced the MSS-S ( same style as original) and re-installed both HD as well as the RMB board / eth1 came back on line but for some reason the MSS did not refreash its self getting an error after et0 " mac address not what is expected" which in this case blocks eth0 port as we were not able to ping gateway from eth0 yet have no issues on the private eth1 > so able to go into MSS and enable off-line , set for 72 hrs not default 24
Still showing as off-line

Called back to Avaya and Went all the way to Avaya Tier 4 MM - network guru who removed a tmp file storing the old mac address of the original MSS-S server even though it should have refreshed its self to new mac address
This stumpped the Avaya tier 3 grp as nobody had seen this one - heck even Ayava learns something new :)

All is well in MM3 world today thank you for all your
posts/replies they shuold relabel the MM grp to
Means-tips / Modular Messaging

again many thanks to all :)
