Does anyone know what this file does. I think it is a file associated i.e.

I had an issue on a w2k prof machine where on boot up right before the login box appeared, an error message popped up saying:

The Msoss.dll file could not be found in the specified path:
c:\winnt\system32
c:\winnt\system32
c:\winnt
c:\dmi\win32\bin
c:\winnt\system32
c:\winnt\system32\wbem
c:\sqlany\50\win
c:\sqlany\win32
c:\sybtools\win32

I was able to successfully rememdy this situation by downloading msoss.dll from

and just copying the file into all the directories referenced by the error message.

I'm just curious as to why this file is missing - we have several w2k machines configured similarly, and none of them have been asking for this file. In fact, if you do a search for this file on the other 2k machines, this file isn't even present.

I'm just curious to see if anyone else out there has dealt with this dll.
How much more water would there be in the ocean if it weren't for sponges?
