Hi

i m attending a uni abroad but i want to use messenger for video/audio conversation but firewall blocks the ports.

1. which ports are used for video/audio?
2. can i do something to bypass the firewall?

Thank you

If the IT department is blocking the ports, go have a chat with them. Trying to contravene University IT policies is likely to lead to unpleasant consequences.

There may be no resolution to your issue, but at least they should explain why.

You might consider adding your own broadband account, and not using the University system for regular access.

It's likely your University is using a NAT/Proxy/Firewall to allow Internet access to its students.

MSN Messenger doesn't work fully when sat behind a NAT device - especially when you're trying to use the video/voice functionality.

E-mail your tech guys and see what they have to say.

I know that some Netgear NAT routers had this problem until early just last month when they released a firmware upgrade to resolve the issue.

Thanks for your replies. As i read from the unis IT website the reason that the block that ports are because unis internet are only for educational purposes not communicational, even if u want to talk to your parents or wife
