Hi all

I have recently put MSN on my computer and added a few contacts, but on my of my contacts I can see recent messages which are not meant for me. How is this possible?
The messages appear where you normally see the contacts id or email address. May be this person does not have the correct security set or simply does not know how to use MSN correctly, but I am sure that if I can see the messages so can others. Any suggestions as to what is going on here would be helpful.

Regards

David

Are you talking about MSN Messenger? If so, many people (espcially youngsters) often change their 'displayed name' to actually be something else - often their mood or where they're at, etc. Is this what you're seeing?

Hi SMAH

Yes, MSN Messenger that exactly what I am seeing, although it looks like there is more information than just her mood and looks like part of a conversation etc. My Nice is a teenage girl and I have seen bad language which I am sure she not want anyone to see other than close friends.
Could they be Winks or something similar?

Regards

David

My teenage daughter & her friends do this all the time (that's how I happened to know what you were describing). You can do the same thing with you're own messenger account to see what I mean - in the options, change your "name" to some statement like: spl200 - I think my boss should give me a big raise :). Now that statent will be what all of your contacts will see when they look at their contact list. With teenagers that do this, this statement is put there because they do want all their friends to see it. And unfortunately, I've found my daughter to have some things that I consider inappropriate. When I do - I immediately tell her to change it or she loses computer priveledges. Some parents don't realize thier kids do this & don't monitor it. From what I've seen, most kids use the name field this way.

Thanks SMAH

If the bad langauge continues, I will have a chat to her mum as our boys can see it as well and they are 6 & 7 years old.

regards

David
