MSL 9 and PPPOE

Hi has anyone used MSL 9.0 and PPPOE as the WAN interface.
Having endless trouble whereby the server sometimes sees interface "WAN" and sometimes not.
so doing an IFCONFIG I'll see loopback and eth0 and sometimes loopback eth0 and PPP0.

When it does show PPP0 then I can't ping any internet address eventhough it has authenticated.

any help
using a Billion router in bridge mode
