MSI of MS Patch

I created an MSI file of the latest MS patch however when the MSI is installed (published or assigned) it doesn't actually patch the system. I ran the KB824146 scanner and it came up unpatched. I ran the scanner or a manually patched system and it correctly showed as patched. What could be happening? Besides SUS, what are some other ways to do it? Thanks

You cannot safely use MSIs for system component distribution. Looked at using SUS?
