I assume you mean a AMD Athlon XP 2600+. If so then you can change the setting in your bios. You probabley dont have the right bus/mutiplier setting. Your MB defaults to 133 fsb.
Athlon XP2.6+ CPU's (Thoroughbred, Barton and Thornton) all have slighly differant clock speeds varying from 1.92ghz all the way upto 2.13ghz only the very early first releases were 133 (266) front side bus, all the latest are indeed 166.
Generally there is either: a 3 or 4 pin front side bus header on the motherboard (you just move the jumper along to bridge the appropriate two pins to attain the 166fsb setting, or carry out the adjustment (soft) in the bios, usually says something like advanced chipset settings, you need to set both CPU and memory to 166.
You could really do with downloading the manual for this motherboard from the MSI website and check to see the specific adjustments for this motherboard.
