I replaced a W2k SP4 domain controller over the weekend and am now having the following error show up in my Application event log on my other domain controller which has Exchange2k SP3 on it. It pops up about 6 times within 30 seconds every 10 hours.

---------------------------------
Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeAL
Event Category: Service Control
Event ID: 8063
Date: 04/05/04
Time: 6:06:44 AM
User: N/A
Computer: ESI3
Description:
Could not read the root entry on directory 'esi1.electronicsi.com'. Cannot access configuration information.

For more information, click

---------------------------------

esi1.electronicsi.com is the domain controller that was replaced and the new domain controller is still called esi1. esi3.electronicsi.com is my Exchange 2000 server which is also a domain controller. All FSMO roles and GC were transferred over from esi1 to esi3 prior to replacing it.

If the FSMO roles and GC were transferred, why would it need ANYTHING from esi1?

Microsoft says: "Verify network connectivity. Attempt to read attributes on the directory. Make sure the ADC (Active Directory Connector) service account has permissions to read its configuration information from the Active Directory."

I know I have connectivity, AD changes replicate between servers.

I haven't found any adverse effects of this error, but it sure is annoying.

I can not find ANY information regarding this error ANYWHERE and any help to resolve this error would be GREATLY appreciated.

Check the endpoint of your ADC and RUS. Were any of them pointing to the DC you removed?
