heya,
in preparation for developing apps with SQL server 2K, i installed the MSDE2K on a separate machine (Win2K intranet server running IIS 5) in hopes of toying around with some of the sample databases.
i've done this install before on my own workstation via VS.NET; the service worked w/out a hitch and always displayed an active connection to myself (the //localhost). however, on the server install, i can't seem to reproduce this. according to the Services manager (and the obvious icon in the tray) the SQL service is in fact running, yet when i use the MSDE manager it won't allow a connection to itself.
a quickie mouseOver simply states "not connected".
even more interesting is that i'm able to detect the running service (on the intranet server) using the server browser within VS.NET.
any thoughts on this? i've read all kinds of documentation, but nothing seems to touch upon this matter. thanks in advance,
mirirom
