MSDE Installs 1

I had an unknown version of MSDE installed on Windows 2000 Server originally. I then installed a version of MS Project 2000 CentralServer which looks like it installed MSDE also. I know get an event ID Error that is as follows:

Type: Error
Event ID: 1001
Description:
The description for Event ID (1001) in Source (SQLCTR70) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DDL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: Cannot open the Registry Key.

I ran the MSDE Component Checker and it sayes MSDE 2.8 RTM is running. Anyone have any suggestions? Can I run 2 different versions of MSDE? Please help me.
