We are using the default MSDE database with Crystal Enterprise 9 and we are in a Test phase prior to cut-over in December. My question is, if I install SQL7 client utilities will I have the ability to set up back-up jobs for this database? I would appreciate any advice anyone has out there on how they are backing up their MSDE database with CE9.

You have options:

Install MS SQL Server (not sure what you mean by client utilities, but if you install Enterprise Manager, then yes).

Set up a job to stop the SQL Server service at some time and then use your standard backup software to back up the CE 85 database and then restart it.

Third party software for backing up SQL Server.
