I need to do some testing that requires me to be able to use both a DB with a trusted connection and also with SQL Login, not necessarily on the same DB. I am testing using a system running MSDE and am not seeing how to setup a SQL Login with user ID and password.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Goto enterprise manager and right click on the Server, immediately below the Server Group and select properties. The SQL Server properties page should appear and you can then select the Security tab where you'll find the option to change the Authentication.

Hi Jim,

If you have access to Enterprise Manager (which ships with SQL Server 2000), then you can attach to the MSDE instance and manage it like you would any other SQL server. If you do not have access to EM, look in Books Online for the sp_addlogin system stored procedure and it will show you how to add logins.

If you need to download Books Online, you can get the latest version here:

Hope this helps.
