To assist me in talking to a modem, I wish to use the MSComm active X component. I've managed to install it etc but when I attempt to drop it on my form, I get the following error:

Code:
License information for TMSComm not found. You cannot use this control in design mode.

Reading stuff on the web, I need to edit the registry.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?

Many thanks in advance
Lou

Lucie: Unless this component does give you low level access to the USB, or because you need it to be .net or cross platform or something, then I would ask why are you using it?

I use a free thing called CPortlib (mostly because its easy to implement). But there are lots of other none activex type components that will do the job.

I does say that 2.64 is for D7 but I have used 3.10 without any problems.

Seems to be for Delphi 2010, I'm looking to see if they've got it D7...

Forget my last post, I will install Delphi 2010 as we have it at work now (I'd forgotten), just haven't installed it yet.

The smaller button to the right takes you to the archive copies.

Woohoo, got it working with the D7 CPortLib component. Thanks, Steve!!! :O)

hiya Steve

I'm working with the CPortLib comp but I'd like to know how I can let the phone ring for say 10seconds before hanging up. It seems to use the event OnRxChar but the event fires after only one ring, how can I make it ring for the 10 seconds before returning as a failed call?

Would it be ok to put my email on here and discuss this off line?

many thanks
Lou

No problem Lou, give me time to dig out my old project, I dont remember having a problem with that issue.

As a general rule when using the component (mostly for non telecoms projects) I avoid using OnRxChar, and use the packet reciver component to read the Input.

Cheers, Steve

I have created a temp email: crumple @ hotmail . co . uk

Would be interested in knowing how you set up the packet receiver comp.

All the best
Lou
