Hi,
What frequency schedule do you run MSB740? How much data do you generate?
We run MSB740 on a weekly basis for 19 work groups. there's quite a number of PM works generated each week. We don't encounter a slowdown in the generation and printing process. We tried customized the report printing, tailor fitted to the comapany standard a fancy style.

MSB740 runs for a work group with is a key to the MSF740 table. It shouldn't take too long to run. You don't say which platform/database etc but I'll assume it's ORACLE. Have your DBA check the indexes on MSF740 - the program will run without them but will have to do a table scan which is very slow.
Another thing to look at is MSH74A - which removes uncommitted MST's. MSX740 - when did you last run that?
We have several hundred work groups with over 5 million rows on MSF740 with the MSB740's only taking a couple of minutes each.
If you do run MSX740 make sure it's run after hours as unlike the other Xref programs this program removes ALL the cross references before re-creating them.
